This lovely Christmas wreath and plaque was donated by The Friends to the hospital. It takes pride of place at the entrance hall to the hospital during the holiday season to wish staff, patients and visitors a Happy Christmas. The wreath is approximately 3 feet in diameter and the plaque is 2 feet square.

Stall Sale at St Giles Church
A stall sale was held at St Giles Church, Church Road, Farnborough, Orpington, on Sunday 5th December 2021 after the 10am Toy Service. Thank you to everyone who generously supported The Friends at this event, which raised £457.14.
Co-op Community Scheme
Our vice-chairman Wendy and trustee Clare were delighted to accept a cheque from Krish the manager of the Co-op at Crescent Way, Orpington for £5,001.15. This was raised by local shoppers as part of the Co-0p’s 2021 Local Community Fund. The proceeds are being used on the Stroke Ward at the PRUH for furnishing an Activity Room and Relatives’ Room, both of which will benefit the local community.
Our thanks go to the Co-op for their Community Scheme and for encouraging members to give generously to a local cause.
Christmas Fayre at St Albans Church
The Christmas Fayre held on Saturday 20th November 2021 at St Albans Church, William Barefoot Drive, Mottingham was a great success and raised a whopping £1,400 for The Friends.

On Tuesday 22nd June 2021 six members of the Friends of the Princess Royal University Hospital met for the first time in many months to hand over to the Hospital the Montage of Photographs and the Fabric Wall Hanging both depicting activities and thoughts during lockdown. This was the result of a fund raising venture that we launched soon after lockdown started in early 2020. People submitted either a photograph or sewed a fabric block and kindly made a donation when they sent in their entry. Sue Simpson kindly sewed the Fabric Wall Hanging together, not an easy task as despite clear guidelines regarding size and fabric we had a variety of sizes and fabrics, quite a challenge for Sue. Her brother kindly paid for the framing for which the Friends are very grateful. If you happen to be in the hospital it is well worthwhile seeing it close up and it is situated in the corridor in the North Wing between the Chapel and the Bereavement Suite

Two of our supporters kindly agreed to us having a Table Sale on both the 25th and 29th June 2021 on their respective drives as they live very close to Tubbenden Primary School. The time from 1pm to 4pm coincided with school pick up. We were delighted to display many of our gifts donated as a result of our Captain Tom Appeal for 100 small gifts at the end of April which was so well supported by our local community. We are pleased to announce that we raised a total of £211 from these two events. Nearly a third of this total were donations on which we shall be able to claim gift-aid. Thank you to everyone who supported the sales.

Finding Poetry in the Pandemic a talk by author and nurse Molly Case
The Friends of the PRUH supported the Orpington Literary Festival organised by Orpington Satellite Rotary and Orpington 1st by hosting an evening with Molly Case, a Nurse and Author who grew up in South east London and trained at Kings College Hospital.
Molly gave a brilliant talk on Zoom which was much appreciated by the 25 people who joined the event. As part of her talk Molly recited three of her poems: “Spinal”, “Nursing the Nation” and “Hold your pen torches high”. All Molly’s spoken word poetry and more can be found on her YouTube channel.
There were also readings from the stories and poems received by The Friends as part of their “Pandemic Memories and Looking Forward” fundraiser. The readings were of “Pandemic Poem”, “Looking Forward Hopes and Dreams”, “Looking Forward as well as back “, “Jess” and “The Shock of the Lockdown in 2020 and then the Hope in 2021”. All these stories and poems can be found on our website.
The Friends thank Molly Case for making this event such a success.

Donation from the charity “Making a Difference Locally”

The Friends are very grateful to have received a £300 donation from Making a Difference Locally, a Charity that operates throughout all Nisa Independent Stores. The Loco Store on Westmoreland Road, Bromley nominated us for this donation.

Zoom Speaker Event
.
Penny Brockman the Team Leader of The Central Brecons Mountain Rescue Team gave a Zoom presentation on the history and work of the Mountain Rescue Service on Friday 26th February 2021. We should like to thank Penny for this fascinating talk in aid of covid related projects within the hospital. This event raised an amazing £1,232. A part of the funds will benefit the Mountain Rescue Service.
